Come Back even as a Shadow. Even as a Dream, 2018-24

In a deeply personal two-part work, Come Back even as a Shadow, Even as a Dream articulates the complexities of grief in which the profoundly painful collides with the everyday humming.

Comprised of fragmented notes, collated over six years, they describe the slow percolation and gradual immersion of holding a tyrant of emotions: darkness, vulnerability, memory and light. Accompanying the text is a constellation of collages that fit together to form a map of kinds. Each panel resembles a complex relic album strewn with debris, that reveal the rituals and traditions observed in the aftermath of death, as well as the lingering residues entrenched throughout the body.

Come Back even as a Shadow, Even as a Dream is an act of resilience. Through elements of text and collage, the work emphasises the tensions between cultural mourning practices and the raw, tangible experiences of life, death, and grief; offering a poignant reflection on the complexities of loss and remembrance.
